Admissions to and exclusions from maintained schools; claims concerning independent schools; claims of educational negligence; judicial reviews concerning local education authority functions, such as in relation to (1) school transport, (2) the organisation of schools, (3) special educational needs matters, (4) school attendance, (5) the funding of maintained schools, and (6) the provision of school meals; cases in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal.

Further education sector matters, including judicial reviews of the Learning and Skills Council or the National Council for Education and Training for Wales, claims made by students against further education providers.

Higher education sector matters, including in particular claims made by students against universities and other higher education institutions; issues relating to student funding (including student loans).

In addition, staffing issues arise in all sectors - schools, further education and higher education - which are unique to the sector and involve statutory provisions which apply only to the education sector.
