Devereux listed for top cases in 2010 and 2011
Three of Devereux Chambers’ cases have been listed in "The Lawyer's" review of top cases for 2010 and 2011.
The Trigger litigation - Municipal Mutual Insurance v Zurich Insurance & Ors features in the top 5 Supreme Court cases this year, the case concerns employers’ liability mesothelioma claims and declined cover. Colin Wynter QC is lead counsel in three of the six principal claimant cases and a co-claimant case, whilst Colin Edelman QC leads for the defence in two of the six cases. Richard Harrison and Andrew Burns are also instructed as juniors in this commercially sensitive matter. The Court of Appeal ruling in October 2010 was complex and requires further clarification by the Supreme Court. The case is set to be heard in December 2011.
Another ongoing top case for 2011 is BA v Unite The Union where Bruce Carr QC appears on behalf of British Airways in a matter concerning anti-strike injunctions. The hearing, in the Court of Appeal, is set for March 2011.
The 'Toxic Sofas' case of Claire Horwood & Ors v Argos Home Retail Group & Ors is listed in "The Lawyer’s" top 10 for 2010. Colin Edelman QC appeared for Zurich insurance in this case where over 4,500 claimants issued claims against a number of retailers alleging injuries from the mould inhibitor DMF used on leather furniture stocked by the stores. Colin Mendoza acted for Creation Consumer Finance in relation to aspects of the personal injury litigation.
