Jonathan Fisher QC acts for taxpayer in judicial review conceded by HMRC
Christopher Lunn & Co (CLAC), a firm of accountants specialising in media clients and represented by Jonathan Fisher QC , has forced HMRC to concede the primary issue in an action for Judicial Review brought against them.
Having refused to disclose the evidence used to obtain search warrants, HMRC supplied these documents two days after CLAC filed its skeleton argument in advance of an imminent hearing.
In an unusual move, HMRC has also agreed to pay CLAC's legal fees in relation to this issue.
In February 2011 CLAC won a previous Judicial Review, with the High Court overturning HMRC’s decision to revoke CLAC's tax agent status. CLAC was also represented by Jonathan Fisher QC in these proceedings.
Due to the high profile nature of some of CLAC’s clients, the case has generated considerable publicity in the national media as well as the professional journals.
