With more than 24,000 practising barristers in England and Wales, to be shortlisted for, and winning, awards is testament to the strength, depth and quality of our members’ practices. Colin Edelman KC was shortlisted for Barrister of the Year in 2021

Devereux was shortlisted as Chambers of the Year in 2019 and 2013.

Bruce Carr KC was shortlisted for Barrister of the Year in 2010. 

Devereux was awarded Chambers of the Year 2013 at the Halsbury Legal Awards.

2016 - The Construction Industry Vetting Information Group Litigation was highlighted as one of the cases to watch. Chris Stone is the lead junior on the legal team instructed by Macfarlanes to represent a number of construction firms in this group litigation brought by over 500 claimants. Bayo Randle of Devereux is also instructed on this case, along with counsel from One Essex Court and One Brick Court. The 11-week trial of 20 test cases was set to start in May but settled confidentially. [SVdB1] 

2012 - Colin Edelman KC was named in the Top 20 cases of this year. The insurance case highlighted for 2012 is described as “possibly the largest coverage dispute to come before the Commercial Court in several years”.  The case “concerns problems that occurred with a marine propulsion system known as the ‘Mermaid Pods’ system which was developed for use on cruiseliner vessels and oil rigs”. The case concerns claims in excess of £100 million against Rolls-Royce.

2011 - Employers’ Liability Policy “Trigger” Litigation; featured in the top 5 Supreme Court cases of this year. The case concerns employers’ liability mesothelioma claims and declined cover. Colin Wynter QC was lead counsel in three of the six principal claimant cases and a co-claimant case, whilst Colin Edelman KC led for the defence in two of the six cases. Richard Harrison and Andrew Burns KC were also instructed as juniors in this commercially sensitive matter.

2011 - BA v Unite The Union; where Bruce Carr KC appeared on behalf of British Airways in a matter concerning anti-strike injunctions.

2010 - The 'Toxic Sofas' case of Claire Horwood & Ors v Argos Home Retail Group & Ors. Colin Edelman KC appeared for Zurich insurance in this case where over 4,500 claimants issued claims against a number of retailers alleging injuries from the mould inhibitor DMF used on leather furniture stocked by the stores. Colin Mendoza acted for Creation Consumer Finance in relation to aspects of the personal injury litigation.

Pro Bono Junior Barrister of the Year

In 2026, Jesse Crozier was named the Junior Pro Bono Barrister of the Year.

The Times – Lawyer of the week

Robert Weir KC was named Lawyer of the Week in July 2013. Robert acted for families of British soldiers killed in Iraq who can now make damages claims after a Supreme Court ruling. Seven judges held that the earlier 9 judge decision of the Supreme Court in Catherine Smith (in which the majority had found that the Human Rights Act did not apply to soldiers when in Iraq) was no longer good law. It is now established that the Human Rights Act applies to soldiers wherever in the world they are. The majority of the Supreme Court also refused to strike out any of the claims made for breach of article 2 and in negligence. The claims arise out of the deaths of soldiers in Snatch Land Rovers in circumstances where, on the claimants’ case, their deaths would have been avoided had the Ministry of Defence procured suitable medium-armoured vehicles.

Bruce Carr KC was named Lawyer of the Week in January 2010. Bruce acted for British Airways in the High Court. In the case Mrs Justice Cox issued an injunction banning planned strike action by BA cabin crew, which had been due to take place over 12 days around Christmas, ruling that the ballot of staff had been flawed.

The Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards 2015

On 26th November 2015, the ‘Outstanding Case of the Year’ Award recognised the input of all representatives for the claimant and the Personal Injury Bar Association for their involvement in JX MX v Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust [2015] 1 WLR 3647. Judges agreed that the case set an industry wide precedent in challenging circumstances. Robert Weir KC, instructed by Colemans-Ctts for PIBA, led William Latimer-Sayer from Cloisters in this ground breaking case.[SVdB2] 

Modern Claim Awards

On 30th April 2015, the judges of the Modern Claims Awards, selected Robert Weir KC as ‘Lawyer of the Year’. The winners of these prestigious awards were chosen by a diverse range of judges, representing every aspect of the claims industry. Besides firms from within the legal industry, organisations such as the Forum of Insurance Lawyers, Association of British Insurers and Insurance Fraud Bureau made up the panel.[SVdB3] 

Women in Tax Leaders

At the beginning of October 2015, International Tax Review launched “Women in Tax Leaders”.  Aparna Nathan KC was listed together with 34 other leading female tax specialists in the UK.[SVdB4] 

The Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards

In 2015, Andrew Burns KC won ‘Labour & Employment Barrister of the Year UK’ in the Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards.

The Law Awards

In April 2016, Finance Monthly announced Andrew Burns KC as ‘Employment Barrister of the Year’ for the UK as part of their Law Awards 2016.
