Expertise
  • Personal Injury

Alexander is developing a busy personal injury practice. He has appeared in trials on the multi-track and fast-track involving: RTAs, employer’s liability, and occupiers’ liability. He also represents clients in CCMCs and advises on liability and quantum.

    Recent instructions include:

    • Successfully resisting an insurer’s argument that it could not be liable to a victim of a ‘hit and run’ on the basis of the principles established by Cameron v Liverpool Victoria Insurance Co Ltd ([2019] 3 All ER 1, UKSC);
    • Securing a judgment for a claimant in an occupiers’ liability case on the multi-track that beat the claimant’s Part 36 offer; and
    • Dealing with allegations of fundamental dishonesty.

As a former chartered accountant, Alexander is adept at dealing with complex schedules of loss and analysing costs budgets.

  • Employment
Alexander regularly appears in the Employment Tribunal on behalf of claimants and respondents. He has experience conducting investigations.

    Recent instructions include:
    • Success for a respondent at a full hearing of a complaint that a dismissal for gross misconduct had been discrimination arising from disability.
    • Success for a claimant found to have been unfairly and wrongfully, summarily dismissed by his NHS Trust employer.
    • Success for a respondent at a full hearing of a complaint in relation to their handling of a flexible working request.
    • Investigated allegations of failures by managers to adhere to policies, or otherwise reasonably ensure the wellbeing of staff, following an incident of customer violence in a retail setting.
    • Advised a respondent in relation to a claimant's appeal to the EAT (permission already having been granted) where the complaint had been rejected under what is now Rule 13.
Alexander has extensive prior professional experience in the private and public sectors, including line management experience. A close investigation of any workplace inevitably produces messy facts and Alexander prides himself on being able to interpret these and make their relevance readily understandable to a Tribunal.

Alexander has appeared in the High Court, led by Richard Harrison, and advised on insurance matters.

He regularly represents consumers in claims relating to unfair relationships with lenders and insurers.

Alexander has also recently obtained judgment for a consumer in the tort of bribery. During pupillage, under the supervision of Jonathan Butters, Alexander assisted Robert Weir KC, Jonathan Butters, and Thomas Westwell resisting the appeal to the Supreme Court in Johnson v FirstRand Bank Limited (t/a MotoNovo Finance) - one of The Lawyer's "Top 10 appeals of 2025".

Alexander’s prior experience working with banks at the outset of his career and his knowledge of regulation stemming from his experience at the Bank of England is a major asset in this area of practice.
