Alexander Fernandes to join Devereux as Tenant after Successful Pupillage

Devereux is delighted to announce that Alexander Fernandes will join Chambers as a tenant upon completion of his pupillage in October 2025.

Throughout the last 12 months, Alex has built experience across Chambers’ broad range of practice areas including tax, employment, personal injury, and commercial litigation.

During pupillage, under the supervision of Jonathan Butters, Alex assisted Rob Weir KC, Jonathan Butters, and Thomas Westwell resisting the appeal to the Supreme Court in Johnson v FirstRand Bank Limited (t/a MotoNovo Finance) - one of The Lawyer's "Top 10 appeals of 2025". Alex has since represented several claimants in hearings concerning motor-finance commissions.

Alex is presently instructed (led by Richard Harrison) on two insurance matters.

Alex was also supervised by Jesse Crozier and Joshua Carey. He assisted both in the preparation of advice, pleadings, and written submissions in the employment and tax tribunals.  His employment experience involved: social media use; discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation; trade union detriment; restraint of trade; and termination of an officeholder.

Head of Chambers, Andrew Burns KC said: "we are all delighted that Alex is joining Devereux. His remarkable progress in pupillage – particularly his work assisting in a Supreme Court appeal – means I am sure he will be a future star of the Bar."

Alex will accept instructions in all of Chambers' core areas.

All at Devereux warmly welcome Alex, and wish him the best going forward.
