Ashley Greenbank joins Devereux as tenant

Devereux is delighted to announce that Ashley Greenbank has joined Chambers as a tenant following the completion of his pupillage.

Before joining Devereux, Ashley was a tax partner in a City law firm for over 25 years and head of its tax practice for 15 years. He advises on a broad range of corporate and international tax issues, but particular specializations include the corporate tax aspects of UK and cross-border corporate finance and M&A transactions, group tax planning and group structuring. He was Chair of the Tax Law Committee of the Law Society 2009-2012 and Chair of its Corporation Tax Sub-Committee 2003-2009.

Ashley also has broad experience in handling disputes with tax authorities. He is a Deputy Judge in the Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber) and in the First-tier Tribunal (Tax Chamber), and a CEDR accredited mediator. He was a Deputy High Court Judge between 2019 and 2025.

Head of Chambers, Andrew Burns KC said: “For many years Devereux has been open to applicants who are in their second careers, but few pupils or new tenants have had a first career as exceptional as Ashley. As one of the outstanding tax practitioners in his field, we are delighted that Ashley has transferred to the Bar on successful completion of his pupillage and has chosen to join Devereux as a member of Chambers. This is a testament to the growing pre-eminence of the tax team in Chambers and further widens the breadth of our tax expertise.”

All at Devereux welcome Ashley, and look forward to working alongside him throughout his time at Chambers.
