Emily began her pupillage with Devereux in October 2025 and will be joining as a tenant from October 2026.

Having completed her undergraduate degree in History and Spanish at the University of Michigan, USA, where she graduated with honours in the top 7% of her class. Emily went on to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Law and Bar Vocational Studies courses at City University in London. 

Prior to joining Devereux, Emily gained substantial experience as a paralegal at the international employment firm Littler, before taking up a role as Caseworker at the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union (CAIWU) where she successfully represented union members in the Employment Tribunal.

In addition, Emily gained advocacy experience with Quest Legal Advocates, representing clients in the County Court, as well with the School Exclusion Project, where she had a 100% success rate of overturning school decisions to exclude pupils on appeal.

  • Employment and Industrial Relations

    Emily brings to chambers a well-rounded and successful employment practice. As a paralegal at the international law firm Littler, Emily gained invaluable client-facing experience assisting with high-value employment disputes across a range of financial and business sectors.

    As a caseworker at the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union (CAIWU), Emily appeared regularly in the Employment Tribunal on matters spanning interim relief, unfair dismissal and discrimination.

    Highlights include:

    • Successfully representing a group of cleaners working at the Museum of London in a claim for trade union detriment against their employer and securing a six-figure award (Ms I Dos Santos Costa and Others v DOC Cleaning Ltd: 2213436/2023);

    • Representing a group of female cleaners in a multi-week trial for sexual harassment (judgment outstanding).

    As a pupil to Jesse Crozier, Emily expanded her experience across all areas of employment and industrial relations law. In particular, Emily:

    • Drafted a skeleton argument for a railway company challenging an employee’s disability status;

    • Produced a first draft of advice for an employer resisting a claim for unlawful inducements under ss.145A and145B TULRCA 1992;

    • Researched and drafted a Respondent’s application for costs in the EAT;

    • Assisted preparation for high value discrimination trials, including Ms L Benn v Professional Game Match officials Ltd: 230129/2024; Mr A Bhachoo v UBS Business Solutions AG: 2216961/2024.

  • Personal Injury

    As a pupil to John Platts-Mills and Jonathan Butters, Emily gained extensive PI experience across a range of disputes.

    Highlights include:

    • Drafting RTA claims and schedules of loss for complex injuries;

    • Advisory work for high-value complex injury claims, including a claim against both the employer and NHS where a work-place injury was exacerbated by intervening clinical negligence;

    • Advisory work for fatal accident claims.

  • Tax

    As a pupil to Chris Stone KC, Emily’s work included advisory work on a range of statutory schemes, including IR35/Off-payroll workers, the Optional Remuneration Scheme, the Construction Industry Scheme and the Enterprise Investment Scheme. Emily also provided assistance in preparing for HMRC’s defence of a domicile claim valued at over £21 million.

    Emily participated in the 2026 RBA Moot which covered issues of multiple dwellings relief and penalties for carelessness.

  • Consumer Credit and Commercial Litigation

    Prior to commencing pupillage, Emily worked as a County Court Advocate for Quest Legal advocates, successfully representing both claimants and defendants in PPI disputes on the small claims track.

    As a pupil to Jonathan Butters, Emily broadened her knowledge of consumer finance and commercial disputes, including attending a permission to appeal hearing relating to a claim for the tort of bribery following the UKSC’s decision in Hopcraft v Close Brothers Limited [2025] 3 WLR 423 and drafting advice on a claim for negligence against an insurance brokers.
