Stephen Killalea QC and Colin Mendoza secure £8.7 million settlement in spinal injuries case
Stephen Killalea QC and Colin Mendoza have just settled a tetraplegic spinal injuries case for a periodical payments order of £225,000 per annum and a lump sum of £3.1 million.
Aspects of the settlement which were particularly favourable to the Claimant were a full periodical payments order covering the whole of the Claimant’s annual care costs (including sleeping night care) in circumstances in which there were significant medical issues relating to life expectation including diabetes, obesity and polycystic kidney disease. The claim included a substantial sum for professional trustee fees in a case in which the Claimant retained capacity but required financial assistance in managing his award. On a capitalised basis the settlement is equivalent to a lump sum of £8.7 million.
