Court documents show UK asbestos manufacturer withheld information on dangers
According to new court documents, Cape and the asbestos industry body it co-founded withheld and downplayed information regarding the medical risks posed by asbestos. The new documents highlight that in 1958 Cape considered a warning label on its asbestos products, and that in 1969 Cape was aware that mesothelioma could be caused by “short and possibly small” exposure to asbestos. Documents also show that sampling data unfavourable to Cape was withheld.
The new documents originate from the judgment of the Supreme Court in Cape Intermediate Holdings Ltd v Dring [2019] UKSC 38 (read the Devereux news item here).
