Alexander Fernandes joins Devereux as Tenant after Successful Pupillage
Devereux is delighted to announce that Alexander Fernandes has joined Chambers as a tenant following the completion of his pupillage.
Alexander joined chambers as a pupil in September 2024. During his second six he accepted instructions in employment, personal injury, consumer finance, and commercial matters.
During pupillage, under the supervision of Jonathan Butters, Alexander assisted Rob Weir KC, Jonathan Butters, and Thomas Westwell resisting the appeal to the Supreme Court in Johnson v FirstRand Bank Limited (t/a MotoNovo Finance) - one of The Lawyer's "Top 10 appeals of 2025". He has since represented several claimants in hearings concerning motor-finance commissions.
Alexander has also been instructed (led by Richard Harrison) on two insurance matters.
Under the supervision of Jesse Crozier and Joshua Carey, he also assisted in the preparation of advice, pleadings, and written submissions in the employment and tax tribunals. His employment experience involved: social media use; discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation; trade union detriment; restraint of trade; and termination of an officeholder.
All at Devereux warmly welcome Alexander, and wish him the best of luck throughout his tenancy.
